About Me

Just like you, I’m a writer.

I started my writing journey with a dream and not much else. I had zero experience, zero writing friends, and zero ideas on how to start. Since 2012, I have dedicated myself to mastering everything I can about the business AND the craft of writing.

Everything I’ve learnt I’ve learnt the hard way and now I want to share that knowledge with you.

I’m on a mission to empower modern authors.

I want to help writers stop feeling helpless when it comes to writing and publishing.

It’s the best time in history to be a writer.

We have more power, more control, and more tools and information to help us than ever before. New opportunities and new markets open up to writers every day.

When the internet launched in 1995,  0.4% of the world’s population was online. Today 57.3% of the world’s citizens are online and by 2030 it is predicted that 90% of the world’s population will be online!

Are you telling me there’s no room in that world for you to sell thousands of books and make a comfortable living from writing?

You can do it!

And I’d love to help you on that journey.

My Ethos

Learn the rules well so you can break them effectively.

Writers are artists and your book is your masterpiece. There’s no two ways about it. But to truly excel it’s important that you master the fundamentals of the craft first. The ‘rules’ and conventions of writing exist for a reason – because they have been tried and tested and found to work time and again.

My goal when working with clients is to help them write with intention so that the creative choices they make are conscious decisions and not just subconscious defaults, or mistakes made through ignorance.

Being a writer is committing to a lifelong journey of learning and improvement. As an author, you are always evolving, developing and changing. You are never ‘done’ or ‘finished’ in your development as an artist.

Similarly, no matter how many novels you write, there will always be room to strengthen your story and ways to make your writing tighter and more effective, and that’s where The Successful Writer can be of assistance to your project.

My Approach

I love sharing what I know and saving people all the time and trouble it took me to learn those skills. I want to be the best writer I can, as fast as I can, and I thrive on helping other people achieve that goal too.

My communication style is consistent and clear, and I’m a huge fan of using examples to demonstrate my point. No writer is perfect, and every writer has their strengths and areas with room for improvement. I find not taking ourselves too seriously an important part of the creative process. We’re artists! We’re meant to be enjoying this. Writing is meant to be fun!

I like to bring that light-heartedness into my relationships with my clients because editing and receiving feedback can often seem like a daunting and overwhelming process, but it doesn’t have to be. With The Successful Writer, my goal is to make the editing process as educational and painless as possible.

My Values

Your Vision Remains Your Own

It’s your art. It’s your baby. At the end of the day, only you can know what you want your book to achieve and how you feel you can best do that. All my suggestions and recommendations are just that – suggestions. You retain total control over the project, and no changes are made without your consent.

Our Learning Is Never Done

It’s a process, it’s a process, it’s a process. Whether it’s your first novel or your twentieth, there is always something new to learn and some way we can improve. It’s important to enjoy the journey. You’re creating something from thin air, and that is miraculous. Cut yourself some slack and let yourself feel a sense of playfulness while learning at the same time.

Clear & Honest Communication

If you only want to hear how great your book is, and how you’re going to outsell J.K Rowling, then I am not the editor for you. EVERY book can be improved in some way, and I will professionally point out your project’s strengths and areas for improvements. My aim is to educate and never to judge. We all have to start somewhere, and we’re all at different stages on this awesome journey of being writers.
